Palmetto Health Credit Union was formed on January 4th 1999 by the merger of Richland Memorial Hospital Federal Credit Union and the South Carolina Baptist Hospital Credit Union. Both credit unions were more than thirty years old at the time of the merger. This merger was a combining of two strong credit unions in response to the Palmetto Health Alliance being formed.

When Richland Memorial Hospital and Baptist Medical Center merged to form Palmetto Health Alliance, they created the largest employer in the midlands of South Carolina.

Palmetto Health Credit Union is excited to serve the Employees of (to include contract employees) of Palmetto Health Baptist; Palmetto Health Richland; Baptist Easley Hospital; Palmetto Health Easley; The General Board of S C Baptist Convention; Palmetto Health; Palmetto Health Credit Union; Volunteers of Palmetto Health who are members of the Auxiliary; South Carolina Medical Association; Fairfield Memorial Hospital; MedCorp Health Systems-Columbia; HealthSouth Rehabilitation-Columbia; doctor's offices, labs and clinics with locations on the Palmetto Health Campuses; UCI Medical Affiliates Inc.; Earlewood Baptist Church and its employees; Rest Assured, LLC, Drs. Hutchinson & Hanna, P.A.; individuals that live, work, or attend school in the community defined by the boundaries of Richland County, South Carolina; and their family members. (Family is defined as including persons related by blood or marriage as well as foster and adopted children and legal guardians).
